well huloh artisans, it has indeed been too long.
I am thinking that most of the people that I was in contact with way back when are not longer very active on DA, so this might fall on deaf ears. But whatever, I'm used to talking into the silence.
I have an announcement type thing!
I am currently brainstorming a project that all you visual people can get in on, if you like. There's no commitment, you can can contribute as much or as little as you want or are able.
The idea is simple. I am writing a story. And this isn't like "I'm going to be attempting to write something in the near future and then fall off the face of the Earth before it goes anywhere." I actually have about 22,000 words done on this single story, and you can examine it for yourselves here:
[link]It is hard to estimate accuratly because it's always a changing thing, but I'm thinking that I'm almost halfway done with this story arc. (Other story arcs written in the same fictional world will follow when this one is complete. short story versions of some of them can be seen on the main page of the linked site.)
BUT ANYWAY. I have this story thing. You have your pencil/pen/tablet things. I have been told that I have a relatively visual style of storytelling, and I think I can agree with that. Maybe my writing isn't up to the level (yet) where it gives the most vivid visual images, but I think this story in particular would be complimented well with illustrations. But, I can't draw, so I thought maybe if I opened it up to whoever wanted to take whacks at it, maybe a few people would bite.
Now, what I'm proposing isn't a graphic novel. This isn't a "I'll write a script and you figure out how to make it coherant" thing. You'd call it more an illustrated novella. The idea would be to create a website and devise some sort of system where the written chapters would appear as regular text and art is distributed throughout, illustrating in parallel. So when something happens in the narrative, there's a picture to the side or underneath or above or whatever that shows what's going on in a more visual sense.
I think the benefit of this kind of project is that you, as the artist, don't have to really concern yourself with anything outside of actually drawing. It would just be a "hey I made this" kind of deal, instead of you having to sign up and get put on a schedule and have deadlines and have to worry about speech bubbles and continuity and all that.
I guess that's the idea, in general. I think it would be cool if there was enough great art at some point that the story and art could be bundled into a physical book, but that would be way down the road. What I am looking for right now is who, if anyone, would be interested in contributing if such a project were created. I'm new to this, so I'm not going to put it all out there and try and make a website and set it all up just to have no one give the concept a second glance. So if this sounds like something you would slap something down for, or if you know someone else that would be interested, hit me up here on DA, or at unchow@gmail.com or mccray.andrew@gmail.com. I'm accessible through it all.
Cheers for the fav buddy.
And be careful with R.S that's tough love.

A challenge. I see a chance to add real colours to my favourite palette.
Raise my mighty mallet towards the gods and swing my talons.
